When I have done this I have run a string line from the back of the base unit

to the ceiling. This gives a real indication of where the light should be so

that a shadow will not be cast on the worktop by the units over.

Small point but if lights are not fitted under the units it is usually effective.

would that not be very dependant on the angle of the lamps fitted?

normally I just eye the first fitting then measure everything else from there and balance them so they 'look' right, usually works for me.

Yes, Steps, cannot argue with that. Some like the lights

fitted in such a manner that there is no shadow on the wall

or the worktop caused by the cabinets over the base units.

To some it is a critical point, just like recessed downlighters

fitted EXACTLY going around a corner at a PRECISE right

angle.
