can i carry out an electrical conditional report? i have been asked to carry out a landlords report for a friend renting a property.

i have the following: 2330, 2391 and 17th edition 2008 jib status approved electrician.

i work for a nic eic company but would like to carry out the report for myself and not the company. im not part p either.

can anyone advice me, cheers.

if you feel competent, yes there is no reason why not,

one thing though,

it would be very advisable to ensure you have the relevant insurance policies in place,

PL and PI, Im not sure on how much you would require Public Liability if you are not doing any work as such, but you should deffo have Professional Indemnity,

and TBH, for the price of PL its good to have anyway if you do any sort of work on your own,

I myself work for a company, as well as myself, and have my own PL and PI in place,

oh, and make sure you tell the taxman. :)

Welcome to the forum b3nmw, At this point in time they would probably still be called Period Inspection Report as amendment 1 does not come into effect until Jan 2012. Part P building regulations has no relevance whatsoever to PIR's (ECR), as it is only new wiring or alterations in special locations that come under part P. If you searched for Periodic Inspections you would find this sort of question or similar has been discussed numerous times. Here are links to a few threads;

Remember though you cannot issue a PIR / ECR on NICEIC headed report paper unless you are member authorised to use their logo. Some landlords may insist upon having a logoed report. Which is often due to insurance stipulations.

I would imagine you could do the PIR , being an Approved Elect. must make you a "Competent" person .

But as Doc Holliday said, whatever you do , do NOT use your firm's NICEIC forms, they really don't like it , they really don't like it up 'em Mr Mainwaring . And never use the NICEIC logo , their legals will be upon you like bull terriers crossed with pirhanas .

Just download PIR cert and print .

You can use EICR's now the bgb came into force 1/7/11, it is just that the brb is also in force until 31/12/11.

Otherwise ditto what the other guys said.
