I'm doing a extension on a garage ! New garage & bedroom above . The walls are getting dot & dabbed do I need to cap the cables ?

Welcome to the forum, I have moved this to our DIY section as I assume this is a DIY question. As Andy says there is no specific requirement in the wiring regs saying capping must be used. Its primary function is to protect the cable from plasterers trowels etc during the building work. It also helps to prevent cables kinking out and bulging out through the surface of wet plaster, especially on uneven walls. With dot & dab dry line boards the above scenarios do not exist, as the sheet of board holds the cable flat and protects the cable from any finishing plaster skim. It is best just to put a few strategic clips in place to stop the cables flapping about until the boards are fixed.

I still prefer to cap the cables, because if you end up with a drilled or faulty one, you can pull new in on old up or down capping, if no capping is used chances are a dab will be right on top of your cable, then you have one big mess on your hands getting it fixed.

AND worth making sure they're in the proper zones!
Very good point, as OnOff says there are specified zones where you are permitted to run your cables concealed within walls. Vertically or horizontally in line with accessories or within 15cm (150mm) of a corner or ceiling. You should not just bury them anywhere you like.
