I used to see a working 100w GLS lamp fully submersed in a bulkhead fitting like that. It was on every evening for the month we were at a job, i suppose a mixture of tallow, surface tension and a large rewirable fuse that  kept it going.

 
I replaced a fitting just like this before christmas there. My prefered method of draining though is to drill a hole in the cover and drain the water into a bucket. Don't really fancy wet arms  :p

True  :B-  . If I'd been on a price it would have been hit a smack with a hammer. Drained, disconnected and removed from the ceiling all in one swing lol  :Blushing   :innocent
