hello

i have a 33amp/hr (does that make sense it says something like that on the box) , i would like to charge it using the car cigerette socket

the charger has a plug thats output says "16v 480ma" but the cigerette outlet is 12v. The unit lights up and appears to be charging, my questiin is will it charge okay while the engine is running, or will it burn out the circuits even tho its less volts but more amps

also is there a device that will let mecharge the unit safely? like allow me to choose 16v for output at 480ma

thanks in advance

i should say its a car booster /jump battery device

i should say the ac plug charger unit output says 480ma 16v

but i dont know what the car socket is, i only know its 12v

i have a universal laptop charger that has a car cigerette power socket input and i can select between 20-12v 80watts but mine is broke and stuck on 19v and i blew the lapoo charger box attempting to use it on the booster pack, will i be able to select 16v and allow it to charge or will it blow again?

Forget charging it in the car, charge it from home plugged into the mains socket.

Unless you are going on a VERY long car journey, any small charge while driving is rather irelevant.

i drive about 25hrs a week and the booster battery device is to keep my van cctv laptop charged during my jurney and at night so it needs constant charging, i chose 33amp one because it'll go further than 17amp battery

it has a 230v inverter that will last 4hrs max but i dont use that, i use the inbuilt scar socket 12v it has oneof them.

If you feel the need to have CCTV in your van, I would be wanting to move house.  I couldn't stand living somewhere where I felt the probability of a break in warranted a cctv system.

lol that made me laugh. its for when im away out of the van on site, im a network engineer and have some cisco equipment in the back

indont know what that is but the idea is to have the device charging while it is powering my laptop, its just to keep the laptop charged while the van isnt powering it

I was about to suggest that. (the second battery not the solar panel)

You fit a second car battery, though not a standard starting battery, a leisure battery. (it looks the same apart from the labels stuck on it)

And you fit a split charge relay so when the engine is running the alternator charges both batteries (quickly)

When the engine is off the leisure battery can power the lappy with it's 12V power lead and it doesn't matter if you run that battery flat as the other one will be there to start the van.

this is standard stuff used in motor caravans.

Or just buy a less power hungry dedicated vehicle CCTV?
