As Andy says wired the same but if you are not cofident enough to do job it may be more safe to get sombody who is competant to do it remember electricity can kill.

Thanks, guys, but do you meanjust connect the 2 green to a connecter, and just leave in rose, because at the moment they are conected together on a connecter, which isn't attched to anything.

Thanks

the 2 green (should be green/yellow) MUST be connected to the earth terminal of the new light.

sorry, but the fact you dont understand what the earth does is a good indication your out of your depth and shouldnt be touching it. (im sure you wouldnt like to end up dead when trying to change a lamp because you done it wrong, although its usually some innocent person who gets killed instead)

and there is probably a warning on the new light saying the earth must be connected aswell...

Okay,2 red to live,2 green to earth,2 black to neutral, any idea about single wire on right of picture reddy/brown ??

NO NO NO NO NO

STOP what you are doing or you will kill yourself.

BOTH green wires are earth to light fitting.

BOTH RED wires just join together in an INSULATED connector block. Some light fittings have a spare connector for this, most don't.

BOTH black wires go to the neutral terminal of the light.

The "browny coloured " wired is in fact another RED wire that has been damaged by heat from the light fitting. That is the switched live that goes to the live terminal of the light fitting.

That may not be 100% correct but it is a LOT closer than what you were proposing.

It's normal for there to be 3 red and 3 black wires, you only appear to have 2 black ones, so I can't be 100% certain how it is wired.

MAKE SURE you isolate before doing anything. if in doubt turn off ALL switches on your consumer unit or fuse box first.

I strongly advise you get an electrician in to fit this light, it won't cost much and that will be the safe way to do it.

I have only described the above because it seems you are intent on doing it yourself even though you don't understand anything about what you are doing, and rather than see you try something blatently wrong, you might as well try and get it right if you are so determined you must do it yourself rather than employ somebody who knows what they are doing.

TBH if you are not 100% sure ofnwhat you are doing then it isn't worth the risk to yourself or the rest of your family (or anyone else who enters your house)

Only yesterday I found a N - E reversed in a light fitting in a house that I was doing a Consumer unit change on,, I also found a L - N reversed behind a double socket:O

Yes,Metal
You will need a loop tester to test the integrity of the earth wire you a connecting to ensure if there is a fault it will blow your fuse/circuit breaker and also to check that the earth actually is connected to an earth. Of course you can just put fitting up and hope everything is ok which it probably is but i would not recommend this.

i once got called to a job of 'getting shock from light fitting'

touched with tester, its live. isolate supply and remove light - they have used earth terminal for the perm. lives, and the earths were twisted together, and isolated from the metallic light

Think it had been up for quite a while lucky nobody got injured really and i was glad i had turned circuit off before touching it.
