Changed to LED bulbs and now they come on when another light switch is turned on

Hi Guys, looking for some advice before calling in a sparky in to have a look.

I recently changed a light fitting to LED bulbs, now they come on when a light switch is turned on in another room, all be it quite dimly. If I turn on the switch that is meant for the light they are as bright as they should be, could I be right in thinking there might be an Earth fault?

Assuming you only changed the lamps and didn't change any wiring then there is a good chance that it's induction between adjacent conductors in your wiring .
If it is that then there is a simple and cheap fix by adding a device called a snubber, but depending on your electrical knowledge and skills you are possibly best asking an electrician.

Thanks for your question. It's not a new light fitting, just changed from Halogen to LED.

That's exactly what it is but has to be one designed to have mains voltage across it and to fail in a safe manner when it eventually does. It should be connected across the closest lamp to the switch of the offending circuit.

if you have loop through switch wiring then the switch can be wired slightly differently which will fix the problem. doesnt work on 2 way switching though

Ah yes, the inverted reverse connection method, most useful on single way switching.
