hello chaps,

just want to clarify something,

if a customer wants a pendant changed to a metal light fitting, no change to circuits, just take pendant down and put a new fitting up, do i need to rcd it? the board is 16th ed all bondings in place! new build about 3 years ago.

also would you do a r1+r2 or just test Zs?

and just out of intrest how much do you charge for this? i dont want to cut myself short or sound to expensive!

thanks

Just do a loop test to ensure metal fitting is earthed and as long as that is ok I would not even bother doing a certificate. I would charge

thanks batty, prob is, i like to give out certs lol, it gives a bit more of a pro look when you leave giving them a peice of paper and they think they have had a better job done

Trouble with that you are making a lot of work as you are going to need to do an insulation tests which means taking cables out in consumer unit but if you are going to do that I would think you would need to be charging around the

the part you are working on doesnt require RCD protection (unless its TT), so just get on with it.

sometimes test Zs

Just think of it this way Paul

Replacement of fittings with no alteration or addition to wiring installation is NOT electrical INSTALLATION work and hence not subject to certification.

Good practice to CONFIRM you leave the installation in no worse condition then you found it, but no need for MWC.

thanks chaps,

ok so 30 quid if just fit, Zs and no cert, would you do 2 for 40?

also just to drag it out further, what do you do with regards to the terminals? chock box? jb? i find thst if its looped in the fitting then getting 4 terminals into a chock box is tight, i could use wagos but they are even bigger and have a problem testing.

thanks

If the connections can be contained within the base of the fitting then it is enclosed by the ceiling (as long as its non-combustible) and fitting and does not need further enclosure.

Most light fittings will have 3 plate wiring behind them . As said ,if the fitting is big enough ,fit connectors in the base of the fitting. If not big enough , the correct way would be, re-connect the 3 plate in the smallest J/B you can find, cut slot in ceiling and push it up. One of those crappy see through things with connectors in would do.

I have seen many light fittings with taped up connectors above them.

Usually use good old wagos myself. Got the same tomorrow. Replace ceiling rose like for like and a wall light.

60 quid for the pair, only 10 mins down the road, easy peasy.
