Hi all

went to wickes last night to do the regular 'man with van' visit for a family member.

anyway they've got Philips CFL lamps (17watt i think) ES and BC

49p for 3!

Lady at the till seemed upset that i was trying to buy 30!

They are also in Lidl (10w equivulent to a 50w) for 10p each.

They are usually subsidised so they get upset if you try to buy too many. A bit like loft insulation.

10p! Can they actually stop me buying 400? Would see me through a fair few rewires!

Don't think so mate, 400 might raise a few eyebrows though:) I recently bought 30 and they didn't seem to mind

Legaly thay can stop you buying whatever they want, at the end of the day they own the shop, no legal obligation to serve you at all.

It reminds me of when I owned a cafe, found out my local supermarket was cheaper on bread rolls than my wholesaler, so i went in to the supermarket and bought all the bread they had, 400 rolls, 400 finger rolls.

Went to the quick checkout, was informed it was for under 6 items, pointed out I only had 2 items, just lots of them:)

Got served :)

After all they want your money, why should they care If one person buys them all.

+1

same as the price, its only an asking price,

they can if they so wish change this price at the point of sale,

ie, when you buy a telly and barter a bit off and get a free scart lead,

they can also change the price to something less favourable too,

ie, a 50p item they now ask

might have to get down to LIDL or homebase then.

Got visual inspection and re-lamping of 12 carehomes in the next month, would be great for my profit margins to get 500 or so bulbs for 10p

Be careful as they are subsidised for homeowners. For example on B&Q's insulation they have the statement: This product is limited to 100m2 per customer.

Thats completely wrong, n fact if they wrongly advertise a lower price they have to honour it. Thats why some ' trade ' places such as Makro have E&OE on their paperwork
Ballcocks. It's a complete myth. Steps is 100% correct

In a shop it's easy: the window display and shelves are what is legally called an invitation to treat, and no binding contract exists until you offer to pay and your offer is accepted.

Asda, too - they`ve been 10p for months now!!!!!!! ES/BC; IIRC 11W Philips CFL - I bought 40 of each, and went through the self-serve till ;)
Good move!!

I have just had a chat with my barrister cousin about this. If an item is wrongly priced/advertised the seller can refuse to sell you it until the price has been investigated. However it is illegal for them to sell it there & then at a different price (even cheaper but i dont think anyone would complain about that).

I was in a Tesco a couple of months back buying lamps from a display marked 10p each. Got to the checkout with my 50 lamps and they scanned in at 20p each. I complained and had to show supervisor where the lamps were on display. Somebody had stocked up 20p lamps in the 10p lamps box but they did honour the 10p price for me.
