Hello folks, I am refurbishing the lighting system at my local football club, the fittings are Thorn and are loaded with 2kw MBIL lamps, a lot of the lamp holders have serious pitting and burning where the contact of the lamp meets the contact of the lamp holder. When I stripped down the first fitting and looked how the lamp holder goes together I saw it was easy to remove the contact, I stuck the contact into a drill and ground it down and polished it and it came out perfect... the problem is it looks like the contact is chrome plated brass I've polished down through the chrome and now my contact surface is some form of brass!
My question is, am I liable to get heating at the contact point as brass is not a great conductor?
Is there a possibility of some form of chemical reaction between the chrome lamp contact and the brass lamp contact?
Thanks in advance for any replies.
