Could be anything, dry joint sounds likely if tapping it works. Take it out and have a look.

I had a similar problem with my ravenheat condensing boiler. When comissioning it with the plumber it wouldnt work. The electronics looked a bit flimsy, when you put the hinged cover back up it worked intemittently, I gave it a knock and it worked and has done for three years!

I work with two local plumbers (gas engineers if you prefer) and whenever they come across a boiler with an apparently faulty PCB, they get me to have a look at it. About 50% of the time it is just a loose or broken solder joint and I am able to repair it. Obviously a couple of hours of my time comes in at a lot less than a new board!!

If you want to send your board to me I'll have a look, but if you've got a soldering iron (and can use it) then you should be able to do it yourself.
