Is there a relevance to this post???????

Survey of non-electrical competent persons interpretations of good practice and guidance maybe ???

What does the bus driver, Butcher, Pub Landlord and Hairdresser think??

Our Postman says 2 years or 6 years if you names Kevin!!

I just assume any electrically competent person wouldn't be seeking a non-electrical person

for instruction about how to carry out their job!?

:C

OK.

You`ve made a statement, rather than asking a question.

Therefore I would have assumed that YOU were endorsing this position, on behalf of said health and safety bod - however I TRY not to assume anything these days!

Such a broad-ranging, all-encompassing statement would need some really careful "backing up" with fact, especially where BGB guidance is concerned.......

some commercial work needs inspecting more often than others, depends an what is going on.

there was an interesting psot some time ago about life of cables depending on how they are loaded

If you have an industrial or commercial install under the control of a competent electrical engineer, then the requirement for "PIRs" in 7671 can be completely ignored.

Please ensure that you tell the H&S "advisor" that they don't know what they are doing, and if they have an issue, you have another competent H&S advisor who can help explain the situation to them, oh, and the other H&S advisor is also an IOSH member!

If they ask please put them in touch with me through the forum & I will introduce them to the other advisor, who is covered by PII for electrical H&S consultancy.

No i told him as fair as I am aware nothing has changed and it's still recommended 5 years. I was asking if any of you have herd about it changing ect. I didn't ask him for advice he approched me and it just popped up in convo

Electroglow,

He is wrong, not unusual for H&S advisers when it comes to electrical work TBH, I come across it regularly, they can normally be put right by a suitably competent person.

:slap

the last firm I worked for had a H&S bod, 5WW type, I had IOSH and the secretary found it hilarious that I was more qualified in H&S than he was!

he only ever done one job for me, when he was told I was IOSH I never ever saw him on any of 'my' sites again. :D

5ww wonder H&S are worse than 5ww wonder sparkies - ill informed, incompetent and full of bullshoot. These are the idiots that stop everyting instaed of applying common sense to reduce risks to an acceptable minimum.

as the old saying goes 'a little knowledge is a dangerous thing '

I have made my opinion with respect to the competence of so called H&S advisers known, being a registered member of IOSH, not just holding an IOSH qualification, such as working or managing safely, I hold a full NEBOSH General Certificate, amongst other things.

IMHO, a H&S advisor should not be allowed to comment on a task which they are not qualified and competent to undertake in their own right.

we had a H&S guy down once while we were on a cherry picker,

started taking pix and stuff of us, and I started to wonder WTF we were doing wrong,

we came down after a while and this bloke [that had done our RA and MS for this job] says, I didnt know you could move along while you were in the air, headbang

FFS,

I simply said 'the clue is in the name, MEWPS '
