Yes , thats the usual way to do it, Moose , but you don't need to bring the return leg from the very end , just alternate each leg until the last socket and join them together.

Saves having miles of cable passing through the boxes .

Thanks mate i did'nt think it did but not sure

allways best to get a second opinion

you dont bring a return all the way from the end in any case. if you do, then the ring will not be evently loaded

Thats interesting, thats the way i was told to do it when i wired my own property, but when i said this to my college tutor he said it was frowned upon and definatley not the wat to do it. Just goes to show even those who teach dont know everything....

A good and valid point made by Andy an makes perfect sense when you think about it.

sorry to moose man for jumping on your post.

another lesson learned

Thanks guys.

Obvioulsy just me but I'm having problems picturing this - can somebody elaborate or provide a rough drawing please?

Take a row of ten sockets.

One leg of Ring goes to socket 1 then link to 3 to 5 to 7 to 9

Other Leg goes to socket 2 then link to 4, 6, 8 and 10.

Link 9 to 10 and you have balanced Ring main

:)
