eg this thread in the q&a section

the answers are voted by users using the arrows, but there is no sense to the thread. The order of posts can be different each time it is refreshed.

Is there a way to have chronological as default with a filter for best answer?

It is going to turn into Manator's Forum, always has the best, most informative posts In my opinion anyway.

Well, to be honest I think this aspect of the forum should be disabled, I find it difficult to follow when answers are voted above recent answers.

You have to admit, I give a very good answer :)

I put up all Manators posts in that thread. Good advice.

However the system makes a mess of the thread and IMO leaves the thread unreadable by anyone. Needs to be done away with. We have the scoob system and although not perfect is far better than the best answer mess.

I can definitely see the benefit of a best answer system for q&a threads, and it is something that it is possible to get used to. But it needs the collaboration of all forum users to work. But TBH if someone posts a question and they are unwilling to read through their own thread for the best answer, then what is the point?

As in OP though, can there be a filter for the system, with default chronological? I am sure we wouldn't mind voting a good answer, as we only have 3 scoobs per day.

Edit; Am liking new look, excellent job Admins.

Or the thread to stay in chronological order but a side bar showing top 3 best answers.

there is an option on the thread to display by date but it needs to be selected each time, ill have a look through my user settings to see if there is a toggle in there

Remember people these updates are totally up to date never tested before. I can see the value in voting an answer up, but what it does do, as evident with the replies, is that it upsets the natural flow of content. This may have been overlooked during the update process. Your input could change that, that's why there is a bug tracker during any Beta run.

I for one do not like the voting system, I think it has the potential to confuse a subject.

Now you have to have your say.

Suggestion,

I use another forum, shock horror,!

Their best answer goes to the top in abbreviated form, with a click on it,

but all other posts remain in order, including the best answer still in the list,

Is this possible with our software,?

Thankyou Mr Steptoe, I have adjusted the best answer forums so that the OP can click a best answer and no other member can vote the replies up or down to make the answers confusing and out of order.

Please let us know if this is a better solution.

The only other solution is to try and teach you all to answer the original question, not go off topic and not argue with each other, however I think that is in Fairy land  :D

And I have added this to the top of the best answer areas - In the hope you will all read it  :D

BEST ANSWER SECTION

INSTRUCTIONS:

The Voting Up and Down Arrows are disabled. The Member who ASKS the question can nominate their best answer given by clicking the GREEN arrow next to their chosen choice. This is then automatically put below the OP's question but still left in the thread.

The fact that the op is asking the question means that they do not know the answer. Is it appropriate for them to be voting the 'best' answer?

I think the whole idea is silly and just does not work. 'Likes' work perfectly well.

Surely the OP is the one that can decide what answer best helps with their problem,?

I understand what you're saying @Essex1 and the OP is probably not best placed to judge technical matters, but a clear simple description of how to change a light switch the OP can follow is beat judged by the DIYer I think... :|

How many times do you see the OP voting themselves the best answer? And the post says "thanks, sorted now", usually out of kindness to say the thread is answered.

I like the idea of users voting for a best answer (perhaps restricted to bronze and above?) in a Q&A thread, it gives backing to the post.

Scoobs don't quite work in this respect (3 per day).

Edit; public votes, and scoobs? Who did it?

I noticed in this thread

that it seems the OP voted Dave's helpful post the best answer, and it has been elevated to post #2, but Dave's post is not also in the thread. it should be between posts 9 and 10.

I know what's happened, someone has voted my answer as being helpful and the system has gone in to shock as it doesn't know how to cope with the idea of me being helpful ;)

Is it me, or is the most recent answer now appearing art the top of the page? i.e. in reverse chronological order compared to a "normal" thread.
