can anyone recommend a consumer unit that has good access for cables via the top, rather than via the knock outs via the back, as it is for a consumer unit change. It needs to be 17th edition RCD protected with 12ways.

if possible the main switch on the left.

split wise it needs to be at least 5 protected.

I find MK excellent for top entry. In fact it's the only board i fit. Aesthetically its one of the better boards and i know i'll be able to get the bits in years to come, unlike some of the cheapy ones.

 
I think the Square D boards have good top access, the metal clad ones have various knockouts from 20mm to 35mm.

The main switch is on the left( well the last one I fitted did)

Other than that I think the wylex it has a fair amount of room as well.

I have fitted crabtree in the past but can not remember what they are like from memory.
