Hi All,

I have just swopped a Cooker Socket (hidden behind the cooker) for a Cooker face plate because Curry's are not allowed to do it although they are then able to take the cover off and wire up the new cooker?

My Client is insisting on a Certificate because Curry's are saying that they need one.

I am going to provide a Minor Works Cert but I do not understand why?

Appreciate some words of wisdom please.

Thanks

Bob

Strange request from currys, imo if they were the last ones to mess with the face plate and connections then they should test/certify how do you know if they did not accidently losen one of your connections after you have tested, if you issue minor works make a note that all connections were checked and tight when you left it and if possible show the client.

To be honest until now I did not know that they went round connecting goods thats my one a day bit of knowledge :)

Connecting up a cooker - can't anyone do this?

Thought it was like changing a socket faceplate. Allowed under part P etc, like for like replacement

Yes anyone can its just an appliance at the end of the day. I would question there reason for the cert and then if someone is going pay just note the comment above. But I think if you give the customer the info they can argue it with curry's.

Alternativly tell customer & curry's you will connect it then there is no need for them to worry.

Strange one from Currys. Who is paying for the testing and certing ?

I had an instance where Currys delivered a washing m/c, checked the Zs of the socket , found to have no earth, cut the plug top off.

Acted responsibly IMO.

Thought we decided in another thread cutting the plug off voids warranty!

IMO - it's none of Curry's business what I want to do in my own home. If I want to electrocute myself with my washer I will.

What training has an electrical appliance delivery man? 1 Day course telling him to turn the water pipes clockwise and issue him with a socket tester?

The world's going mad when the delivery driver sabotages a new electrical appliance :_|

total rubbish.....

i wouldnt issue a cert on currys say so

think about it.....you change the face plate and the customers asks for a cert and you issue one.

next day currys remove the face plate to connect the cooker

your cert then becomes worthless as you were not the last person to make alterations to it.

Perhaps they had a court action against them and felt they had to cover their asses .

although not electrically qualified .

theoryspark and apache seem to have the most logical arguments .

so i am siding with them .

Morning Gentlemen,

I know that mail order catalogue companies, such as Empire Stores, Great Universal and others, will Not deliver a Gas appliance - Unless you have arranged for a gas fitter to contect it up in the day of delivery and an Electrician to wire up an Electric cooker/hob etc.

I had to provide a cooker for a tenant recently at very short notice.

went to the property checked the cooker that was there and wiring and went to a local independent shop told them what i wanted.

delivered the same day and waited for the call to go back,,didnt get it went round and discovered the shop had done it (properly i might add !!)

Health and safety sucks

Someone from the shop, which you ordered your part had gone around to your customers' house and fitted your part - Behind your back?

i ordered the cooker for delivery expecting to get called to wire it to the face plate......but the shop guys did it themselves.

common practice for them to do that
