Hi everybody come across a situation the other day that made my blood boil and just trying to get advise as to where to go next with it.

I visited my parents house to start a wiring check as it has not been done for a while and she has mentioned recently that the RCD trips quite regular.

I open up the cupboard and find that at some point before christmas the gas board sent out United Utilitys to change there gas meter. The gas fitter has replaced the pipe from the gas stop cock to the regulator on the meter and has taken the new pipe across the front of the fusebox making it imposible to remove the cover. There was plenty of room to take an alternate route as it has been no problem since the early 70s when the property was built. He obviously realised what he had done as he broke the plastic lid off the fusebox so you can get at the breakers and rcd.

I have contacted british gas who say there is nothing they can do as the work is over 3 months old.

I am just wondering where to go from here, has anybody else had similar problems.

Bloody hell. Can you post a pic of that up on here please?

What a frigging Wally What ever happened to common sense?

Threaten them with legal action. X(

Do they not have to place pipes certain distances from CU's, meters etc... to comply with their regs?

I will post a couple of pictures later on tonight just getting ready to go out for the evening so no time at the min but watch this space in the morning

but its that close to the front cover of the board I can just get two fingers between the gas pipe and the mcbs

Phone the gas company and report a fault.

When the man comes to investigate the fault, he will likely say "there's nothing wrong"

To which you reply, "if that pipe is not moved in 5 minutes, there will be a big leak where I have hacksawed it out of the way to get access to the fusebox"

Yet another reason why I will never let anyone do any work on my house without me being there to watch what they do and stop idiotic things like this happening.

I'll go with that one!

Sorry your house burnt down but my work was over 3months old.

150mm seperation between gas and electrics !!!! Or try staining the pipe to look like black burn marks , then phone them up and say there was a flash over onto the pipe but there is nothing I can do because your pipe is "touching " the circuit breakers.

I did a job once where sparks had run tails across front of consumer unit because they where too short ended up replacing them with 25mm tails and different route, takes all sorts I suppose.
