Stranded 2.5 T&E (equivalent) appears to be easily obtainable if not the norm in Australia and New Zealand. The two nearest standard British sizes before metrication were stranded as well: 3/.036 and 7/.029.

Is this the elusive 2010 catalogue that's been "coming soon" for months? or a recent special offers flyer?

I haven't got my 2010 catalogue yet.

Do you have the catalogue number to look it up on line?

 
At that price it'd be worth buying just to strip down to brite copper & take to the scrappy.

 
Right, I've found it. It's a typo and a wrong photograph.

It's on page 17 of the "Highlights" brochure valid until 12th March.

The description says "100M, 2.5mm twin & earth cable-6242YH" and shows a photo of stranded T&E

The product code is quoted as CB1143406

Looking that up on their website shows it's in fact a 25M drum of 1mm T&E http://cpc.farnell.com/pro-power/62421mm25m/cable-twin-earth-1-00mm-25m/dp/CB1143406?Ntt=cb1143406

Indeed. They can withdraw any item from sale at any time for any reason and do not even need to inform you they have done so.
