In a way busses have auto control in that they can change traffic lights as they approach a junction.

Not really. Assuming each normal car does. 100,000 miles that would be a fatality for every ten normal cars. I would like to think people are better than thatGoogle's car has done over 1 million miles I believe and caused 1 death, which is a hell of a lot better than people manage. I can see this technology working, and working well, until some idiot in government tries to cut safety standards to allow more profit.....
