Hi,

If you dont mind can you experienced people cast your eye over these results and say whether they are good/bad and give any advice please.

Upstairs Ring

L-L - 0.29 ohms

N-N - 0.29 ohms

E-E - 0.48 ohms

I think this cct is wired in 7/029 as its stranded with 7 strands.

Q: If I have to extend the wires when I do the board change next week, can I extend crimping using new solid core cable and the old stranded cable?

L&N Crossed

Socket 1 - 0.14 ohms

Socket 2 - 0.13 ohms

Socket 3 - 0.20 ohms

Socket 4 - 0.21 ohms

Socket 5 - 0.16 ohms

Socket 6 - 0.14 ohms

Socket 7 - 0.22 ohms

Socket 8 - 0.14 ohms

Socket 9 - 0.14 ohms

L&E Crossed

Socket 1 - 0.21 ohms

Socket 2 - 0.23 ohms

Socket 3 - 0.25 ohms

Socket 4 - 0.22 ohms

Socket 5 - 0.21 ohms

Socket 6 - 0.21 ohms

Socket 7 - 0.31 ohms

Socket 8 - 0.19 ohms

Socket 9 - 0.22 ohms

Also got continuity reading of 4.7kOhms between Live & Neutral (meaning something still plugged in/connected somewhere?) what would give this sort of reading?

Thanks

Guinness

Ring readings look acceptable.

The 4.7kOhms could be something plugged in or something like security system spured off, loft light spured off, wardrobe lighting... anything like that. worst case scenerio its exactly what the test is for and the insulation is breaking down on the cables. Could do with more investigating tbh.

I think you might wanna put off your assessment.

You will get asked all sorts of questions and you need to know your stuff.

Friendly advice.

I disagree, looks like the testing part is very thorough, it just looks to me like the questions are to confirm and help understand the results.

I just wish I had been able to go on a forum like this and ask the very same questions before I did my first assessment.

I agree, however, you cannot easily learn this trade via the internet, but at least he is asking questions and not "winging" it.

Experience on the tools is very important while learning the trade. This forum consists of many people with varying levels of experience and their advice can prove invaluable as a question is answered very quickly . I see it as being on site and having lots of mates helping You along with their advice and of course You help others too in case they get stuck on something but want to get it right. It's a good forum for helping each other and to generally have friendly banter Guinness

Make sure the earthing and bonding are up to scratch, and the supply is OKGood luck
Thanks mate I've put a new 16mm earthing conductor to rod and 10mm bonding to gas and water. Thanks again

Thanks for the friendly advice but I'm not gonna put off the assessment and i'm not going to pick an easier job either. I'm going to retest when I change the board next week and get to the bottom of the results which didn't cone out as they should. I am not a confident person and always doubt myself hence asking all the questions. I'll never wing it as I want to do it all properly no matter how long it takes me. I must admit I don't have a lot of practical experience but I'll get there in the end. I done my level 2 and 3 last year and beginning of this year and got straight distinctions apart from one credit so I'm not as thick as I may come across on here. Just like reassurance. Thanks for all your constructive replies and sorry if I've pd anyone off. Cheers

FYI:

4.7Kohms is a "standard" sized resistor; which may be used on a neon bulbie thing, or a small plug-in doofer like an air freshener, etc.....

Your tests on the ring look thorough, and I don`t see any serious issues -

And to answer your question, extending is fine; though make a note on your cert. of the change in cable size ;)
