I am actually a bit concerned about the crabtree pull cords I get the feeling they are now having them made in china so the quality is no longer there. I my be wrong but I tightened the earth cable up on one and the terminal turned around and broke the casing off. Maybe a one off but they just don't seem to be the same to me. I still will use them though for 10 mm cables as there doesn't seem to be a better alternative.

Most of my apprenticeship was carried out in various British Telecom buildings. They all had their own BT Clerk of works as well as all the other normal suits. All cable sizes had to be the next one up from the calculated sizes, so it was normal for me to wire 2.5mm lighting and 4mm ring circuits etc.

In the exchanges final circuits were wired in the phase colours, which i now believe not to have been correct, even then.

We did a few jobs in phase colours . A private hospital was one but TBH I can't see the point looking back .

No earth cable , using the conduit in those days.

Also contracted to GPO/ BT They had their own ideas . Think they called mains work EL&P or something. They always hung their fluoros

on jack chain and the fittings were fed with a plug / socket from flex. Always had an eye on maintenance , unplug, unhook and fit replacement .

I think all their stuff is made in China, Batts and I don't think the quality control is up to scratch TBH .
