Good Afternoon, I have made a switch over with a new dimmer switch, I copied the positioning of the previous switch, the switch itself is buzzing.

Does this look ok?

I know it’s a LAP…. Convenience won.

Thank you!

The buzz will be from the wire turns on the RF suppression choke. Tends to happen with cheap dimmers but quite harmless.
It is important for safety to add an earth tail between the terminal block (green) and the faceplate but I don't think that will affect the buzzing.

The buzz is normal then, usually more noticeable when dimmed down. All the earth need to be connected together, probably easier taking fly lead from the choc block to the earth terminal of the the switch.

Thanks Monkey, They’re normal lamps, I had the 3 earth’s so I earthed the one that comes with the live? Is that alright?

As mentioned ALL three earth wires still need to be connected to each other...
As if you split them you may break the earth continuity to other parts of the circuit.

e.g. metal fittings in another room become un-earthed..

A lot of dimmers do have some level of buzzing while in use,,,
which can also appear worse in some hollow stud-walls, as they can become a bit of an echo chamber.

All earthed, thank you all so much, I am not being a tight whad not paying for a sparky, I really enjoy learning and doing something that isn’t work and boring stuff, so thank you, always appreciated!

Matt

I had the same problem with a lap fitting. After speaking to a sparky I swapped it out for a better quality one and the buzz is still there but you have to put your tab upto the fitting to hear it. As the lap one was audible from the other side of the room.
