I was asked to look at a Dimplex XT24 3.4kW off peak storage heater that trips the breaker in the consumer unit when it is switched on.
There was continuity between the live on the back of the isolating switch to the heat input control.
There was a resistance reading across the back of the heat input control of between 0.1 ohm and 0.9 ohm depending on the setting.
The insulation resistance readings from the back of the isolating switch were N-E 71MΩ, L-E 71MΩ and L-N 0Ω.
The cable looked good with no obvious sign of damage.
The lady who rents the house had to go out and I could not do any more testing.
Is it likely that one of the elements has blown up or are there other possible components in the heater that could cause these readings?
