In the OSG, it states for cookers/hobs, Take 10A then 30% of the rest and add 5A if a socket outlet is incorporated in the control unit. What does it mean by 'if a socket outlet is incorporated in the control unit'?

The cooker control switch can be bought with a one gang socket on the side this in total is a 2 gang plate size

Cooker Control Unit (CCU) is a name given for the Cooker switch adjacent to a cooker. Some are a switch on its own, others are a Switch to isolate the Cooker along with a single socket on the same plate, sometimes called the Cooker panel.

Thanks SL. Pictures shows a lot more than what words can describe.

I'm going to put my neck on the block again, but it staggers me that a practising electrician has never heard of a CCU with a 13A socket built in before.

I know we all have to start somewhere, but this is a question I would expect in the DIY section. NOT from someone who knows enough to know what the OSG is let alone to go to the trouble of reading it.

It's not meant as criticism of the OP, but criticism of what they are teaching sparks these days. :coat

I think its down to where the question is asked, sometimes new members ask questions in what would appear to be a correct zone. I have been quick to judge before, but have learned to with hold any criticism until I have assertained where the thread is leading.

It's all about terminology, yes has fitted a few of them but never called them a 'Cooker Control Unit' just cooker switch or cooker isloator or cooker switch with outlet or isolator switch for cooker. A quick look in the screwfix catalogue and they are 45A DP cooker switch/13A switch outlet not CCU.
