If you are not altering the fixed wiring just connecting an appliance / accessory it can be argued no need for and cert...

But if in doubt..

do a few test at the FCU & issue a MWC to cover your rear end,

e.g. no harm in checking Zs is ok with MCB type.

polarity.

Earth continuity etc..

there may be some limitations to doing a full Ins Res test?

:| :)

Your plumber will need to supply a certificate under the gas safe scheme and I know that one of the main things concerning the electrical side is the need to establish a connected earth. So I would always do a MWC for such a job, covers everyones backsides and maintains a good working practice.

The tests do not take long to do and should not be overlooked.

The heading in the topic suggests you are asking if it needs notifing to the LBC the answer is no, your not adding to or changing an exsisting circuit.

all tests to be made at fused spur, a minor works cert and is notifiable under part p regs.i connect central heating systems all the time.check main bonding as well.

I am in your neck of the woods in fact I am 4 miles away:O

If you need any help I am always available to assist.

If you need a job looking at I will advise you, but that is only because you are an active member of this forum, and willing to give and take advise.

I contract on bigger jobs than you take on so there is no conflict of interest.

So I am here if you need any help. :D

It is only notifiable if changes to the exsisting wiring have been made.

You could replace any damaged cable like for like, change a fused spur, and still not be responsible for notification, unless you have altered the characteristics of the wiring.

I also love the plumber who spends time crossbonding the boiler, but never crimps just shoves it in and hopes no one will pull them out.

As the works are in a "special location" as prescribed by BUILDING regs, ; NOT 7671, I would also issue a BRCS notification, along with the MWC. Why not? If there is ANY doubt whatsoever, then notify. Apart from anything else, the customer automatically gets a 10yr insurance backed warranty on any work I notify. It`s worth notifying EVERYTHING in that case, as your customer gets piece of mind.

Mr Hornet. Could you please clarify your last comment - regarding cross bonds and crimping? I`se confused. Thanks

This is where bare strands of the bonding cable are divided to fit iether side of the clamping screw. Appears to be tight but will with very little applied force come free from the cable clamp.

I always crimp the ends of the cable so that they are properly "lugged" and secured.

You could notify all work under part p but it is not required or needed which is why there are the exceptions in the first place.

Precisely-in my understanding the special locations only means if it is deemed a minor works alteration to a circuit and has an actual addition then it is notifiable.

But i cant see the harm in a minor works certificate being done-just without notifying it. Shows professionalism to a customer doesnt it.

But if you dont cant really see the harm in it either. ]:)
