Hi guys,

We have dealt with a client recently by installing some vehicle chargers for them.  They designed and constructed the circuits and we went to site to fit the chargers (single phase on radials). We tested our equipment and made arrangements for them to test the circuit fully and issue an EIC.

They have now come back to us and asked us to carry out the EIC not them. Where do we stand on this? We tested the system as a minor works as such, Ze, r1+r2 and so on.

Thanks in advance

tell them its their responsibility for the circuit upto the charge point and your MWC is the relevant cert required by 7671 for your part. if they want an EIC instead of MWC then you will give one but its extra work not originally priced so they will be charged for it, and it will say exactly what the MWC does and that it only covers the charge point and will be clearly marked that the supply was done by others and is excluded

You didn't install the circuit so it is not up to you to issue the EIC.

Exactly. We have issued them MWC for the charge points, yet they're still adamant they want a full EIC. Thanks guys, much appreciated.

Issue an EIC covering only the connection of the charger?  Just what the MWC covers but on a different form.

State clearly that all you did was connect to an existing circuit designed & constructed by others.

Use a multi signature form, don't sign for design & construction.

You can't put LIM on an EIC so use N/A for the stuff you didn't have control over, & can't inspect after installation.

Use the text boxes to carefully describe what you have done.

They get an EIC, it's worthless really, but, it may be a compromise that gets you paid?

but he has designed & constructed the part he's done, i.e fitting of the charge point, along with the I&T so it should be filled in

On a certificate it is, in my worthless and ill informed opinion, just as important to state what you did NOT do as to what you DID do!

high court......Mr Sparky, "the cable to the wuffle  valve blew and toasted the thrake conglomerator , you installed this as part of your contract with.....as stated on your certificate"

YOU.....hang on Wiggy! Look at the cert!....I only connected and certificated the wuffle valve NOT the install. SWIVEL,

Am I missing something here?

"somebody" installed a new circuit for a car charger.. but didn't issue a cert?

You added a charging point and issued a MWC?

Is that correct?

You should have asked for the EIC for the new circuit before you connected the charger?

I wouldn't have, I doubt many people would ask for the EIC before just sticking a flex in a spur.

I might have asked for it though so I could check my results against it, but I think only once have I ever seen a set of previous test results produced on request.

Yeah, OK, fair cop, you are right, I did type that on my phone while sat in Burger King on one of the services on the M4 last night, still 3 hours from home!

Hi Paul,

Most likely was Reading then.. I used to stop and spent the night in membury a lot in my lorry driving days. I would climb through a hole in the fence there, and wander about in the darkness on the runway of what was RAF membury during the war. I would be miserable at being stuck in the lorry on my own instead of home, but then i would think of the young men that took off from the base there, quite a few of whom, probably never made it home at all..

Used to put things into perspective a bit...

john...

Its still a small working airfield John.

Some of the older buildings there used to have faded wall art still in place, same artwork that the aircrews used to paint on the nose of aircraft......not been there for years so no idea if it is still there, I remember they demolished the control tower in the early 90's.
