I call Stella wife beater too, and I think it's common around these parts, & where I used to work around the Cotswolds?

Even they accept it's called it wife-beater. Beat-the-wife must be a local variation. 

PS a bottle is 5.2%

And it has taken you until now to realise this?  

Stella is called wife-beater around this end of the world, but as I don't have a wife to beat I'm pretty happy to keep drinking it.

It was 5.3% ABV they lowered the ABV to get around the higher duty on >5%.
