Hi guys (& girls if there are any) Doing a replacement CU for approval. I have inspected the job & there appears to be a mixture of rings & radials rings wired in. The one ring is on a 32 mcb which i can leave. But the rads seem to have a mixture of 32 & 16 mcb Should i change them all to 16s or upgrade to 20s? No nuisance tripping reported on the 16 mcb No RCD in the CU currently installed, any response/advice appreciated.

Really the rads should be connected to the heating system and not the electrics water and electric don't mix. What sort of board are you fitting.

I would ,yes, change them to 20s .

I may be mad and you don't appreciate my jokes but they make me laugh.

Have you tested and properly verified what each conductor is supplying? Have you done end to end continuity tests with everything unplugged and conductors removed from neutral and earth bars?

You could have 3 conductors in 32amp mcb, 2 for the ring main and one just as a spur supplying one socket or fused spur for heating etc so acceptable.

If your saying there is only 1 2.5mm conductor in 32amp mcb then change it down accordingly 16 or 20amp.

Hi Robin, yes done the continuity test as the board is not too clearly marked & i want to make sure i was thorough for my first assessment. It seems there are 4 circuits the Kitchen is on a radial (please note batty) one marked sockets up & one marked sockets down also on radial circuits & the ring seems to be in the dining room! There is a maximum of 4 x double sockets on the radials with a spur on the kitchen one,

Sorry forgot to mention it would be easier for me to get this info before i order the new board so as to get the correct size mcbs. The one im looking at weighs heavy with 16a ones. 20a will cost extra.
