I've been asked which are the most efficient electric room heaters and wasn't sure of the answer! A customer lives in a house without gas heating and is using fan heaters which obviously cost a lot to use. What would you recommend as being the best solution in terms of heat output versus cost? They don't want Economy 7. Cheers all.

Infra-red heat the people not the air. Oil filled rads do give a sink of heat when switched off that may give them a slight edge over a convector heater.

Cheers. Unfortunately they can't afford to have a gas system installed otherwise that would be the obvious choice. Are there wall mountable infa-red / oil filled heaters around? They don't want freestanding if poss.

Wall mounted tend to be convector heaters. You can get oil filled or infra-red type for bathrooms. Have a quick google and see what turns up!

I skim read the OP - thought they had gas! :Blushing

In that case there is no other answer than night storage heaters and economy 7 - what have they got against that?

Cheers will do. Their experience (and mine to be honest too) is that storage heaters tend to chuck out heat when you don't necessarily need it! Plus you can't easily control it (i.e. turn it up on a particularly cold evening).

Any direct acting heaters will be expensive to run during the day time.

Storage heaters charge up on cheap rate at night and give out heat all day

If sized right and used wisely they are the most Economic form of Electric heating

I have got night store's and they take some getting used to. I have fitted these for a few customers as replacements for night stores and they are well pleased.

The bills are a little lower and much more controllable. If my ns's wernt fairly new I'd chuck the lot and fit these. There are other types as well so have a look around.

fitted dimplex duo heats in a few customers houses they seem to really like them. They like the look of them and like the cost of running them. not cheap to buy though!

Have you tried looking at a gell filled rad that plugs into a socket outlet

I think cef are the main stockest
