Electrical Testers

Would like an opinion on which testers are the best on the market at present. Currently using megger mft.... I have had them 3 years and they have been repaired twice and are at present winging their way back to megger. Just a word of advice for anyone purchasing a new set, the megger comes with a five year warranty but if they are sent for repair the repair only carries a 3 month warranty. So if the same thing goes again if it's been longer than 3 months your paying!!! Plus every repair means they need recalibrating so it's not free it's

I have been using the megger mfts for a few years now got the mft 1552 1553 and the new 1730 only problem I have had is where the leads plug in they turn inside the tester and the cables snap off. What problem have you had with them

The no trip loop was to high. ( compared to an exact same model and on recommendation of the NIC) this happened twice and now the black lead connection snapped off when I pulled the lead out. Might just have a rogue machine. Do like these testers though!!

That's just put me off buying a Megger 1730 then I was quite impressed when the guys from Megger shown me the tester at ELEX but if they are that unreliable I'm not going to bother.

Have we done this before only a few times. I personally will stick with Fluke as the low current loop readings A are constant And B quite believable.

I've had the 1730 over a year, I look after it and it still looks like new, but has been used almost every day.

Yes the no trip loop seemed high to me, but after firmware update it's fine, they do have another update available that is based on all feedback from users, and I will send mine in for firmware update and calibration in September.

I've got both the Fluke 1653 for years now & Megger 1720 for a few months..........prefer the the Fluke if I'm honest.

That's the bad news, you send it back to them in Dover.

Best give them a call first and give them you S/N and details, they will then tell you what's changed since your firmware date if any.

Do you recon they will let you take it in there as I'm not putting my tester in the post. Like you mine gets used daily and still looks like brand new. Doesn't go out of my sight ever lol and gets treated good. Mft1552 well pleased apart from not trusting the low current loop readings

Give them a call, I was amazed when they called me out of the blue to explain there had been firmware updates since I purchased mine.

They offered the update free, but added if waited until it needed calibrating they would do that also but would charge

Hate the 1730 megger I have but absolutely love the Metrel 3101. Meter threads are done to death and we still get the same answers. Depends what you are comfortable with

We have a fluke 1653b and it's a brilliant bit of kit, although it does throw a fit when the batteries are getting a bit low on juice!

As streetlighter said we was looking at the new mfts at the elex show, personally I wasnt that impressed but I'm not a fan of the megger brand full stop, although I can highly recommend their Internal Cardiac Defibrilators lol as I found out Megger also manufacture these and my grandad has one installed (similar to pace maker) I have said to streets to stick with the fluke

Their single units are pretty decent, Street, I wasn't impressed with their new series at all.

Had a result today. I mentioned to the contractor I was working for that my testers were knackered and he told me to take it to his office and they will get it repaired and calibrated for me. Now not sure if to sell and buy a new set or stick with. Megger have calibrated mine twice and there has been no mention of a firmware update. Thought they would of mentioned it of it was done. Then again the calibration label was never renewed and still had a hole in it from when they repaired it. Had a major incident whilst witness testing an operating theatre and the hospital rep was convinced that my meter was not calibrated. Took an eternity to get calibration certificate emailed from office.
