electrium breaker recall

Has any one else had a letter from electrium recalling wylex breakers due to risk of over heating. It stated on the letter only breakers bought from Screwfix are affected.

Is this a new recall or the one from about two years back?

Actually did have a note in a Wylex enclosure installed today so think it must be the same recall.

I had noticed the last few electrium boards i've had from electricfix had recall reminders inside them, thought they were just chasing up from the last recall

I have replaced all breakers that were affected on my jobs, so I'm not to sure what this letters about. I'll give them a call in the morning.

It is the same recall from what I read...

I received a letter today specifically mentioning purchases from Screwfix....

Maybe they forgot to include screwfix contractors in their previous recal..

so have to go back and re-issue some more letters to cover their bottoms!!!

it is a different contact number on the letter dated April 2012 tho???

Perhaps their records show that more product is still out there that they have not located so they need to do another sweep looking for them???

Spoke to a Electrium Rep a few weeks ago and he said this was going to be the final wave of the SAME RECALL, to try and mop up the MCBs that went out via screwfix, B&Q etc.

You who have had letters are probably on one of their databases.

So the ones from B&Q are usually fitted by the DIY brigade but Electrium stipulate only registered sparks can do the recall. Interesting.

electrium are offering to get someone in to do the work (which would probably apply to DIYers), or the spark can do it themselves.

I'm just thinking back, Electrium wrote to me saying " According to our records you have installed Crabtree and Steeple brand C/Us within these dates ...etc ..etc "

This indicates that they were advised from sales records held by Denmans and Electric Centre .

But B&Q would have no cash sale retail records of who bought what . So have all those slipped through the net.

And has anyone heard of or been called out to find a one of these faulty breakers.?

Or do they just melt when an overload occurs.?

The Wylex unit I had from electricfix last week had a note inside about the recall, quite worried now as I bought a shitload of wylex mcbs in the trade point bargain bin for a quid each last year !

I was called out to a wylex mcb a couple of weeks ago, customer complaining of burning smell from cu and said it looked all red inside so they just turned off the main switch.

Turned up and the mcb at fault had 2 small burn/melting marks either side. I will post a pic up when I pop out to my van. But the biggest concern is that it was a B32 which isn't on the recall list!
