Just need to check this with you guys and if needed I can go back to correct.

Situation I have installed some more supplies for single phase LG air con units, my wholesaler sold me 32amp Europa 3 pole isolators which have seperate terminal blocks labelled Neutral and earth in addition to the 3p switch.

Now I terminated Line conductor in L1 and was going to put the Neutral in L2 so as to provide double pole isolation, however changed my mind and used the terminal block for the Neutral conductor as I thought it didnt seem right to put a Neutral in a L2 termination and I didnt have my labelling machine with me.

Have checked regs book 537.2.1.1 and it seems that I am ok as supplies at both properties are TNS and TNCS and so Neutral is reliably conected to earth and therefore no need to isolate.

If I have cxcked up then can easily go back as both places are local.

I would use l2 or l3 for neutral better to isolate it but as you said not critical unless double pole isolation was asked for in instructions.

I would have stuck it in L2 or L3 as it is a "live" conductor without a thought to ensure full isolation regardless of supply type!

I never use 3 pole though only 4 so I always have an N contact available, cost difference is negligible.

Never saw any manual, just got a telephone call from air con installer on what he needed

When I installed the 3 aircon units that I did at the commercial premises that I was asking about the other week, wholesaler sold me Gewiss 4 pole isolators which I thought were far superior to these carp Europa ones. So there was no probs with regards to termination of neutral conductor.

Also can you point me to reg where L & N needs to be isolated in this instance thank you

PUWER98, EAWR89, HASAWA74, MHSWR99, all as ammended.

Isolation of sources of energy in PUWER is probably the best, there may be others & other legislation & may even be regs to quote!

Ok I know its getting a bit late but i have got BRB next to me, howabout reg 537.2.2.1

"A device for isolation shall isolate all live supply conductors from the circuit concerned, subject to provions of 537.1.2"

Where is it in regs that cookers, showers, heater elements ie hot water cylinders etc are supplied through DP switch?

I know this is what everyone does but would just like to find relevant info from BRB thats all. ;)

Theres nothing wrong with the way you have connected , you have chosen to go double pole and thats all there is to it .

Same thing if you were fitting a contactor , often connect single phase DP across a 3 pole contactor by using L1 and L2 or 3 .

Jobs a good 'un leave it alone.
