Need to replace a 20+ year old existing pair of external front coach lights, seems the lamps last a few weeks then blow, currently wired in mineral, and add a luminaire under the outside front porch

Looked through the big red book, nice index back and forth, round in circles X(

As my local supplier does not seem to carry mineral, am I off the mark using HiTuf back to 6A (RCD protected), the cable would be surface clipped at 7'+ for most of the run, I've yet to calculate volt drop and Zs for the length but likely less than 25m

Also installation has a 24hr timer, the regs seem a little ambiguous on this point, it would switch of, but unless I utilise IR too of course, the lights would still be on "people not detected" when dark, how do you interperate this

Or suitably box the pyro, then short run to fitting?Does the Pyro test out OK?
Yet to test the pyro, prefer to use if possible, also need to check the conductor condition at the current coach fittings, thinking about it the pyro loops around the front of the porch so I may be able to re-route by bringing further back under the porch, provided the pyro does not fail when I re-route.

Not tried to reuse old pyro, what sort of snags might I get?, I know it can be affected by damp at joints.

Also I've assumed the lamp blowing issue is down to moisture getting into the fittings as the top seals have long gone, or am I off track here?

Thanks for the replies guys have a Guiness Drink on me

It could be damp in the pyro? or the fittings?

1st step diss all ends off, then insulation resistance test Pyro..

If OK have a go a re-forming it to new positions..

Then REDO ins' res' test to check no damage..

If still OK give it a shot.. But if in doubt DON'T!

you don't want loads of call backs cuz of repeat failures 6months down the line!! :(

Thanks Special, if I have to replace would you use HiTuf or go Pyro again, think SWA would be over the top on this one

Cheers
