extract fan fire sea

need to put a 4" (possibly 6") duct through a wall for an extractor fan, but its into a different fire compartment. whats the best options? most ive ever needed to do is seal around cables but seems a bit pointless sealing around the duct... so whats the best options?

Sounds like you need to install a fire damper that would operate when the fire alarm is triggered.

When you say a separate fire compartment, is this within a house or commercial property?

I've done some 12" duct in a BFO multinational,  steel duct that was joined at the fire compartment separation with a special joint piece that had the fire seal built in,

The joint was about 4" bigger than the pipework, but didn't intrude internally on it.

We actually scrounged the joints from the HVAC guys as the bloke we were subbing to had no idea what to do.

I'd think they would satisfy building regs .....thats what you need to satisfy  I presume .   Never come across that before .  

What are the chances that most people would not bother ?

We use the in-duct fire dampers that have internal blades that are under spring tension and held open with a temperature rated link. There's also one that's like a roller shutter door that slams closed, also has a temp rated link but from experience they're more likely to stick. Both types are actually reasonably priced, I think we paid about the equivalent of 50 quid for a 1000x1000 damper not long ago.

Something like this but not sure of a suitable UK supplier.
