In  a small shower room I'm replacing an old extractor fan with a new Manrose 4" timed one. (old one wasn't timed). There is only one cable from the wall with red , black and earth cores. This is fitted high up on the wall and,  about 2 feet away  is what  I think you would call a "fused spur" with a 3amp fuse. The old fan had an on /off  pull cord, and was controlled, along with the ceiling light, by a wall switch ( with a small red neon light) outside the room.

The new fan requires permanent live, switched live and neutral.

Can I simply connect the black to neutral and the red to either the perm live or the switched live and do without the timer ?

Any assist gratefully accepted.

yes, but you will need to link both L & SL terminals together. or on manrose fans, remove the timer PCB and move the 2 black wires to the terminal block instead
