hi,

i need to put a fan on wylex 3036 fuse. full load is 3.7a 550w. starting current is 7.8 amps will this have to go on 15a fuse or will it go on the 5.

cheers

I'd check the big red comic to see when the 5a blows at what current then choose from there. Although I'm sure someone will give you the answer your looking for. Cheers

i have actually lent it out to friend who is revising for 17th edition exam. cheers

Hi, according to the BRB a 5A 3036 will blow in 5 seconds at 13A so the running current is 3.7A and the starting curent 7.8 a 5A fuse will be fine. The chart does not even go down as far as 7.8A !!

How do you know what the starting current is though?? seems very low to me.

john.

Data plate. also have been told that i can use a 5amp 3036 fuse but i thought when calculating design current you must take into consideration starting current for example on flourescent lights calculating design current you must multiply by 1.8 and use this current to choose your fuse is this correct?

Discharge lighting is not just the starting current to consider there is the gear losses, which is where the increase also comes in.

Plus you often have lots of lamps on one "switch" "starting up" at the "same time".
