When testing a ring main I am familiar with setting up the P-N and P-E loops and measuring between P & N and P & E at each socket outlet and noting the reading but if the ring contains fused connection units on the ring do these have to be measured between P-N and P-E in the same manner?

If the FCU is on the ring, it should be substantially the same reading as the rest of the ring. The spur it supplies should have a slightly higher reading. I would test this also, as the R1R2 for the circuit may not be obtained without it, nor the polarity verified.
