Need help, im.abit rusty on fire alarm systems as i used to dable about 10years ago during apprenticeship.

What are difference between...

Bi-wire

Conventional

And 2 wire sytems

Am right in thinking...

Conventional - basically all radials for detection equipment, sounders seperate radials.

Bi-wire - wire everything together, sounders, call points ect ect

2 wire - unsure as never worked woth them

In terms of actually terminations on these various different systems are they all the same in terms on + - in and + - out with end of line resistor at end of line.

Also what is the difference between end of line resistor and end of line monitor,

Just need refreshing abit.

Bi - Wire  & 2 wire are ,  as far as I know ,  the same  .       Detectors  &  sounders  all on a 2 wire loop .

End of Line ,   often a resistor ... as long as the resistance of  a loop doesn't alter the panel is happy there are no problems .

Some systems use a polarity diode  & capacitor .

2 wire seems to be the new word for Bi-wire.

Some systems just have a resistor but some now to comply with fault monitoring have what is called an active end of line, looks more like a enclosed in plastic mini circuit board with two wires to end the zone.

example kentec panels if you use a resistor it does not comply with the EN54 standard but with an active end of line it does.

just check with the manufacturer of the panel you are using.
