just a thought, if gu10 led bulbs were used would fire hoods be needed as they dont produce hardly any heat if any.
what to stop them putting normal gu10 after your gone

so would that mean hoods/fire rated downlighters will be needed if there is. and neither will be if there isnt?cheers wayne
Fire rated downlights/hoods are only used to re-instate the fire barrier. Where does all this crap come from about using fire rated downlights if you have insulation round the fitting!?!

Concurr completely, and with extensions' remarks. 1 domestic house is normally considered 1 fire unit. It is only when breaking through fire barriers between units that fire rated dls are needed eg a ceiling of a downstairs flat. Myth 2 fire rated does not mean they won't set fire to combustible materials in the ceiling void, or make them immune to thermal effects of insulation. F rated helps (suitable for fitment to flammable surfaces) but insulation needs to be moved away from fitting. In general I do not use fire rated dls because they tend to overheat the lamps and reduce lamp life. If insulation is going to be a problem fit low energy to reduse heat output at back of fitting or aluminim reflector lamps which reflect more heat forwards.
