My mate next door has currently got tv cables ie: scart leads for the tv run in some trunking on the wall in a dogs leg but has asked me to hide it in the wall. I was thinking of running it in PVC conduit and plastering it back up. Any better ideas ???

And i have advised him that there not going to be accessible once there in the the wall and he is fine with that.

Whatever you do, put MORE cables than you need.

If he's still using scart, it won't be for much longer, so put an hdmi or two, and a few car5 / 6 cables as with appropriate adaptors they can be used for almost anything.

Plasterboard stud walls are a LOT easier for hiding tv cables.

Maybe a bit too involved in your case but, when I fitted my TV I brought the chimney breast forwards about 100mm with studding then created a void. Every port was then replicated in the cupboard adjacent to the fireplace.

You're going to need some big chases in the wall

There is a new typr of cable out that is flat and can go behind wallpaper/carpet. Then you put application specific connectors on the end. It aint cheap though...cannot remember the name at present

you will struggle to get a scart connector through conduit!

As pro d says you can convert scart hdmi via cat 5 by getting the right ends search on google

They do scarts with removable ends but scarts are yesterday most things are HDMI these days. Actually I have a set I brought for a job then the customer changed there mind another

My bad about the conduit and scart lead lol ;) I'm just looking at my options to make it as easy as possible, safe, and hassle free for the future if anything should change.

One consideration if your mate's missus is anything like mine is, does he come home to find she's moved all the furniture and the TV's sitting on the floor. She greets you with "I thought we'd have the TV over there, can you move the aerial?". A few times I've come home to find the lounge where the dining room used to be! My plan is to eventually bolt the thing to the wall and as per kerching's post #3 and bring the whole wall out a bit with battens to make a cavity. Lots to do before that happens though, got to make the lounge and diner one big room and at the mo the floors are at different heights.........as are the ceilings etc, etc!

I did one last week

I chased out the wall and fitted 25x40 trunking. I then got 2x 35mm back boxes, removed one side of the box so the trunking fitted inside the back box. I fitted cable entry face plates (square hole with brushes).

My customer also had scart. I ran the scart cable and HD ( to future proof) inside the trunking and out the back box, befor it was plastered over. The trunking I fitted is large enough to pull a HD cable through, should it need another in the future.

I have run 50mmx50mm downpipe through voids with 45' bends at each end to allow pulling in of almost any cable with plugs before now. You can never tell what they will ask for next, best be prepared.

Also don't forget draw wire/s!!

one TIP.

TEST your leads BEFORE you pull them in.

I fitted a 5 metre long scart lead, so the tv could be on the wall, and the sky box in an adjacent cupboard.

Fed the cable in, only to find it didn't work. It was a faulty lead. Had to get another and go back to change it. All could have been avoided if only I had tested it first.
