Hey guys just thought I'd let you know I got my first pj and it's a biggen (for me). Basically it's a 6 floor house and it's needing a rewire! Im gonna do it with a friend who has being going for a little while so should be ok! Just wondering really if anyone has posted a step by step guide of what I should do from the beginning! I have a rough idea from what I was taught in college but wouldn't mind someone elses point of view who's had a lot of experience! (I've a little experience in new builds but as you know it's completely different process) sorry for the length of the message but am a little daunted.. Ps socket and switch heights can be at any level (practical) if it's not a new build? Thanks for your help if anyone can.. Cheers

Lol nah just a pretty large house lol! Yeah I know there is a bit to consider but what would your main worries be? I know the fuse board will be pretty big for starters lol! How would you split the lighting and power.. Eg separate lighting circuits for each floor?

Well the jobs defo mine cos it's a rich family friend but what price would you put in considering it's the centre of London and I have very low overheads.. Just me and another electrician working on it

There's nothing wrong with ambition mate. As this is your first private job, this seems a big one to take on. Have you got to supply materials? Thinking of up front costs. 6 floors is a heck of a size for a house. I've worked at some big houses in London where there is a 3ph supply coming in but only 3 floors . I'm guessing that this house that you are working on is in London. A lot to plan and consider but if you believe that you can pull it off, then fair play to you.

How much do solicitors charge per hour and still keep a straight face. Don't sell yourself short mate. You're a professional too.

Personally I would be looking at putting sub-mains in and even consider fitting one board per floor. May sound like overkill but, have you thought about volt drop over the circuit length? and the logistics of running EVERY cable back to a single distribution point? Derating of cables for grouping and insulation? and if the property is occupied and you have to keep things running...potential nightmare.

Best advice I can offer is; take it in small isolated sections and don't be daunted by the bigger picture. It Needs LOTS of planning, keep a cool head and best of luck!!

Why? Is he wrong, in any point, at what he says?

If you looked at this from a customer POV, and you knew that your designated "competent person" was trawling a forum for advice on what to do - would YOU be confident?

SpecLoc is, as always, spot on. There are a heck of a lot of highly qualified guys in the marketplace, who can`t get taken seriously on a job quote, due to attitudes like this!
