The only reason I can see to do the clipping is if it's going to be insulated - so at least you know the install method. Highly esoteric and only likely to occur in the loft space - where the only likely cause of concern would be the shower cable. On a slightly different tack (or rant)

Lots of old dears round here have had grants to have their lofts insulated. The contractors roll out the stuff across the joists and cover everything in insulation. A nightmare if anything goes wrong - and shower cables are buried.

If you believe cable de-rating I would have expected a lot of fires in the area - but nothing has happened.

Do we inadvertently scare these old dears with talk of imminent hazard to life and limb when the evidence does not back us up?

Is 6mm bonding an accident waiting to happen!

Is no bonding a crime of negligence?

If we put all the risks in context how much work would we lose?

Just a few thoughts from a slightly inebriated sparky!

Goodnight All!
Just to pick up on your post, we calculate the hell out of our cable runs, we fit downlighters into nice open spaces, then ,as you say , council dishes out grants and its all buried in 10 ft of lagging . I pity the sparks in the future who have to dig down to rewire throough that carp!!!!

On your other points (not pints) (6mm bonding etc) we tend to forget that once the 16th edit. was the ultimate in superior installations and before that it was the 15th edit. and before that the 14th . all handed down to us from Mount Olympus on tablets of stone , " This is the 14 th edition (Metric) and thou shalt call it the dog's gonads , thou shalt work to no other edition than this, the word of the IEE is upon you .

Cable thou shalt bury in the walls may be just below the surface, supplimentary bonding is an abomination and RCDs shall not darken your door for they are unclean . Thou shalt protect from overload with a thin piece of wire that may eventually melt .

Your Consumer unit shall be called a fuseboard , its name shall be Wylex, and its construction shall be wooden.

Listen not to those who talk of being registered , or being assessed as competent , for they are false gods and , lo, these things will never come to pass .

Be in fear of the future ,when the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse shall come , for they shall be called Admin ,Apache , Steptoe and Brian and now I fear I have lost all grip on reality and have forgotten what the OP was about . :C

Oh yes I remember , the multitudes were hungry so a disciple was sent for Fish and Chips 5000 times ( 2000 with salt and vinegar, 1000 just salt, 1999 just vinegar, and 1 with brown sauce !!!! ) That was probably Apache ,awkward sod . :coat

I am up because I can not sleep with worry, now I see your up because you are a worry :)

Your post made me laugh though, so I may now go to bed knowing I need not worry whilst your a member of this illustrious forum.

Where the hell do you get the ideas from?

Thanks for a very entertaining post.

I think its the water here , the Welsh are adding something unspeakable to it before it leaves the Elan Valley.

Besides , someone has to adopt the mantle of Forum Loony until Special Location again graces us with his wit and wisdom. ( I did say wit didn't I , ah yes)

Nite Greeny .

true, but this place is a building site
1. Ripping up multiple boards may well weaken the floor.

2. If you clip the cables along the joists when the place is a "building site" - what happens if there is a problem later on and the rooms are full of furniture .....

Don`t create your own problems - customers provide more than enough for any of us.

Surely whoever trained you should have explained these things to you?

As Professional says, don't create problems . A large part of house bashing is pulling one out with a new one attatched . ;)
Pulling out a house with a new one attached!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????

:|

blimey Deke... didn't know you could pull a whole house?

I have only ever pulled a bungalow before and that was hard work.....

what about a maisonette?

or a 6 block terrace.... can you pull a terrace as well?

B-) :coat

Ah ! You're back , are you ? I can hand back the mantle of Official Forum Loony to your good self, it was heavy cyber crown to adopt for a normally sensible and intelligent chap as myself so I thankfully pass it , electronically, back .
