So was having an arguement with a mate at work. He things floating connector blocks are ok. I said they should be fixed using the fixing holes provided.

So when you use one in the back of a switch box (loop at switch) to join the neutrals together, you screw it to the back box do you? (I don't)

I do not loop at switch. I was taught properly. 😈

If I did though I would use the correct accessory and fit a DP switch.  A connector block stuffed into a back box is a bit amateurish.

I've seen it done ....couldn't be bothered myself TBH   .

We all have our preferences  , such as if you do work for the local council here , you have to earth the metal sheathing  and use  R/H Black Japp screws  for fixings.

If you don't loop at the switch, you had better not come up here to work, that's just about how all new houses are wired now.  So I guess we have all been taught incorrectly then. So be it.

Hence the Devils head.

I was was always told not to take neutrals to switches. I know it is bolloxs but it always stuck with me. Like I also said. If I did I would fit the proper accessory for the job. Bish bash Bosch.

if you were taught properly, you would have been taught that there are many ways to achieve the same thing. just because someone else does it different from you does not mean its wrong

Well Hager have wasted A lump of their product development budget then....as they make light switches with a neutral terminal for that very situation

I use them all the time now...suppose when I get a bit more experience I may change my ideas

Please read my posts in full before you embarrass yourself mate. 😉

You said "I do not loop at switches as I was taught properly"

i said "Hager make switches with a neutral, terminal"

what is there to be embarrassed about mate......I never mentioned floating connectors, merely that Hager have had the foresight to provide a neutral terminal

This is the same argument as the neighbouring council to us , whose specification for domestic work was that 3 plating at the light fittings was not allowed .

There are dozens of these things ...some of them worm their way into the brains of sparks and they can't see any other method .

Another favourite I used to come across .....we had two subbies working for us once , aged around 30 , both were under the impression that  a , say, 63A  X 30mA  RCD   gave overload protection up to 63 A   along with earth leakage @ 30mA  .    They had a lot of other misconceptions from which they would not be thwarted.

Wired lighting circuits using all 3 of the main methods, loop in, looping at switch, and spider method, none of them wrong, none of them better or worse than the other, just different methods for different situations.

So super spark you best have a word with your teacher and give him a good talking to.

I also said that if I did I would also install the proper accessory for the job. Which you do also. Good lad. X

I'd say what regulations stipulate either opinion.  Arguments are generally between parties who have limited knowledge or experience.
