I suppose i must be a 16th then generally use rings but will do 32 amp radial on 4mm if not too many sockets but i suppose i am old fashioned would not be happy leaving a 16 amp radial for a three bed house but as my signiture says better to be safe than sorry.

well,

I actually put 3 rings in my own house,

as well as some radials,

but there was a reasoning behind that,

Im not sure if you know, KME does, if he works it out. ;)

I have a ring circuit for the sockets in my house.

1 ring, whole house!

Was there when I took the house on and it was rewired a room at a time over several years.

Also single up front RCD too!

On a TT with a single rod Ra about 160, circuit Zs's about 8-10 ohms

I will allways install a 4mm radial on an indust or comercial job.

Even if i did a domestic job i'd do the same.

It gets a bit frightening/silly when you encounter insulation thicker than 100mm. NIC man knocked me for 20A RCBO on a 4mm radial feeding bedroom sockets as it went through some 'thick stuff for about 500mm. Said i should have used 16A OCPD, ah well-my fault-so sorry-never mind............. :coat

Well my theory on this if you put plenty of ring mains in they will never get to 32 amps as they won't need to so that cable 2 x 2.5 will not get overloaded and heated due to insulation seems to have worked so far hopefully.

I tend to fit radials @ 20A generally on domestic. Ind / comm is dependant on circuit and property.

I have (and will) use a ring - but only when it suits MY purposes and design to do so. A ring can cause more problems than its worth, if done incorrectly. I`ve heard the scuttlebutt about them being done away with for years......I`ll believe it when I see it.

TBH, I think this industry has far more pressing issues than the suitability (or lack of) ring finals.

Thank you for the replys,

made me change my mind on rings.Probably now will go for radial circuits.

are you doing the data & telephone cabling
Nope

Marshall Tuflex 507 series underfloor socket/busbar trunking is my weapon of choice. Rated at 63A, take supply to one end, extension pieces clip together. Leads come terminated with special plug. You can choose tour own socket pitch, clean earth, dual circuit, 3 phase..might just be a tad too expensive thoughMarshall Tufflex> Home > Cable Management > Underfloor to Desk

I think we are the only country to use ring mains...personally I do not like them, radials everytime for me. If some to$$er/prat/wazzock Architect wants rings then I ask why, I usually get my own way............... :coat
That looks like a very good quality but my worries is not what kind of underfloor sockets to use but what kind of wiring and if i can avoid a closed metallic trucking. As you can see the objective is to lower the cost with out any safety issues.

20A rings with appliances on radials. Doing extensions and new builds its hard enough avoiding the 300mm bits of insulation let alone the 100m bits. I cant see how you can avoid it.
