If ever I fit anything like that, I fit the basic thing and leave the customer to hang the 2000 pieces of plastic glass
Same here  !!  I fell for it once  but never again  .  As Dave says , fit basic body , present customer with box of dangly bits  and leave promptly  .

I once dried in a wet installed on the  ceiling ....nightmare !!!

Oooh errr,  is that wise in this day and age?

People do look at you blankly when you say no and give a good reason.....

I usually say if your house burns down because of it then the insurance won't pay out, that usually stops them in their tracks...

usually followed by... but,  but I've had it three years and now the shop has closed down and I can't take it back!

Not my problem.

That doctor friend of mine has a fetish for chandeliers, I'd done a refit on a barn conversion for her and she asked if I'd fit a small chandelier in the middle, I fitted a socket outlet to the beam where it was going and screwed a fairly hefty hook into the beam. She produced this fitting that was about a metre in diameter and nearly the same in the drop, I secured it to the hook eventually, it weighed nearly 50lb without the crystals. I dressed it fitted the lamps and switched it on, it looked fantastic, it turned out it was antique with genuine antique crystal drops and had been imported from France costing over 3.5K! I'm glad she didn't tell me the price before I fitted it.
