Frequency Controlled Led Lighting?

i was going to undertake a project in the summer and need to know anything like this exists or will i need to create it?

ideally i am looking for LED lighting that changes colour at different frequencies

You can get sound to light controllers for LED lighting from Aurora I think.

Sorry to say this (sorry to everyone) Electricians can tell you how to wire a supply, how to wire a house or factory or.......but to tell you about specialised electronics requires a electronics person, you would really be better off asking on a disco / lighting / stage lighting  forum.

However, I have never done a complete lived in house re-wire, why would I?

There is not much money in it!

IF the OP requires it I can design and build him a sound to light unit, and CE mark it to boot if needed.

Please don't tar everyone with the same brush.

Also I am not the only one on here that works on programmable systems, & I don't mean domestic stuff like Luxone, I'm talking about S5, S7, AB, ABB, Indramat, Control Techniques, Parker, and other industrial control & electronic systems.

I havent actually built one, but I have reprogrammed/modified/remapped CDIs etc, and not the modern plug it into a machine/computer type,

but I dont think changing the ignition curve would help much with the OPs lighting issue,  

I think OPs best bet is simply to have a google at Maplin, CPC etc , Im fairly sure they would have off the shelf kits that could be modified to his exact requirements.

Whilst your argument carries some merit......

on the whole it is a flawed concept.... 

i.e...

To take it a stage further it could be said that there is no point in asking for advice about your pets ailments here..

far better to go to a specialised vets forum.....

Or no good asking about computer operating system bugs & glitches...

Or no good asking about fixing the timing on you car engine...

Or no good asking if anyone knows where to get a part to fix their motorbike....

Or no good asking if anyone knows much about scuba-diving.... 

OR....  Welding,  Plastering,  Playing guitar    etc..  etc..  etc...

Its possible there could be a broader base of knowledge than simply wiring up plus sockets lights motors etc....

So there is nothing to be lost with anyone asking any question here as you never know what answers you may get....

I beg to differ. 

Your own argument is flawed, since you chose to mention about asking for advice about a pet, you already know there IS a resident vet, so to ask about a pet when anyone can see there is a dedicated vet / pet section.

Taking it one step further, the other things you mention, vehicles, computers also have their own dedicated sections, not to mention that these subjects are 'common" in that most folk will "tinker" with a vehicle or at some time a computer, but again these items do have a dedicated section.

On the other side of the coin there is no dedicated section for "LED lighting that changes colour at different frequencies"  Taking that one step further, and to help explain my comments, most folk assume that if it has or uses electricity then the best person to ask about it is an electrician. Years ago that would have held up, but since the advent of more and more sophisticated electronics and similar such advances things have become very specialised and so require more than an electrician. I did not mean to cause any offence to anyone but I merely stated what I see to be the truth, also if you consider sidewinders reply (about being able to design a sound to light unit) by stating that, he has proven that what I said is true because he was the only one who had the confidence to say that he could work with such things. 

Sometimes you have to say, "sorry, that is not what i / we do, I can only suggest you look for a person who specialises in the subject you are asking about"

Im sorry, but I also have to disagree with you; you have no idea of a lot of our backgrounds and specialaties as Steve said... Im sure that Sidewinder, I and more than a couple of others could knock up a circuit design that would fulfil the op's requirements however there are many products on the open market that already do this off the shelf

Is this a hobby project or for a paying customer?

Plenty of hobby stuff out there you could have a play with. You can get an off-the-shelf module for an arduino board for example. Its a spectrum analyser module. I was looking at making a wall panel that changed colour/paterns in sync with an audio input.

You also have a go at writing some code using a raspberry pi. Although it may not be fast enough in software, hence the arduino suggestion, which does the number crunching in hardware.

There are many LED  units available for exactly this use . One  example  http://www.ledstriplights.co.uk/rf-music-controller-with-remote.html  but Google, RGB sound to light. We have fitted quite a few both like the link and wall mounted controllers.

There is just as much probability that electricians tinker with electronic projects as much as cars ,motor bikes & PC's..

I can remember the era when Tandy had an outlet in most shopping centers.. 

Maplin was mostly mail order with just a handful of small counters service (one in Perry Barr just opposite what used to be the polytechnic..  now a University I think...)

PC's had two floppy drives  (NO hard drives)

Citizens band radio was just becoming popular and electronic projects were a common hobby actrivity...

RS, Farnell, CPC & other such places were another source of components,

especially if you were in work and you could book them through works orders!

Not an uncommon pathway for youngsters to get an interest in electricity and trades within its sphere...

May be youngsters today don't play around with electronic projects   .....

but I know there are still plenty of older bods on here

There is no reason why someone shouldn't ask an electronics based question on the forumbulator...

You never know what knowledge someone may have!
