Anyone know someone or a firm that repairs the 2 post lifts in/around blackpool?

The model is telemechanique, MOD 42712/07.(3ph,24A)manufactured 1989

Got called this a.m. saying the switch was knackered, the central bar had sheared off, i managed to repair it afaik, by removing sheared off part and pushing the remainder in by about 10mil.

Now the contactors arent working when the switch is used, i even tried bypassing switch and put link to the terminals but that didnt get anything working.

Ive found a replacement part for the complete control box but its

I'd deffo say yes,

I wouldnt even consider trying to bypass anything on this sort of kit, and only fit proper approved parts,

how would you feel if your lad was working below this car and it fell on him due to something being bypassed and cheap alternatives being used?

not to mention your moral duty,

you know what you need to do,...

otherwise you wouldnt have asked.

 
I was going to say the same Sidey as it is not a million miles away from me. However, fortunately, I am bombed out with jobs at present.

Garages never like paying, Main Dealers are the worst. Try charging them at the same hourly rate that they charge! [i do!...they need me, whereas I don't need them :D

Try 'Chalewolf' in Preston. They used to do Hoists and lifts [garage type], but that was a few years ago. If they can't do it then they will know a man that can.................. :coat

 
the bypass was just temporary to see if it was the switch at fault i wouldnt have left it insitu.Thanks for replies guys, i will mention the complete replacement and attatched cost, if that isnt to the guys liking i will pass on the job and he can find a repair firm, done chasing the www for this.

 
Piece of advice; This kit needs to be examined and

certified under LOLER (Lifting Ops and Lifting Equipment)

regulations.

The inspector (Surveyor) will be looking for the correct

operation of the lift and the proper operation of the fitted

kit to interlock with drives etc plus the methods by which

uncontrolled descent is prevented.

If it is not right when he sees it you could be going back.

Hi all,

Slightly off thread, but there you are.... There is a bloke down the road from me used to work in a local garage, a Ford main dealers.

It was not long after they first brought out them two post things, actually, i think they were just about the first people to have them. Anyway, he was working in the garage when he, and all the others heard a huge crunch. They looked, and it turned out that a chap was doing a clutch on a cortina. He was wiggling the gearbox, and pulled the car off the lift... It turns out that the thing did not have locking arms to stop this happening....

Anyway, they all ran across, and this poor man was underneath the transmission tunnel, bent double, with the car completely on all four wheels on the ground....

They all ran across, and the whole lot of them physically just lifted the car by hand, whilst the others pulled this poor chap out. Apparently he was bleeding from every orifice and allsorts.

Miraculously, he survived, i think he was in hospital for something ridiculous like two years. He had massive, [for those days] compensation, and the makers of the lift had to replace EVERY lift in the garage for free, and needless to say, change the design so the arms locked in position. What fines were imposed on them i have no idea......

As to the faulty one in question, give the parts prices, why do they not just buy a new one....

Garages charge COMPLETELY INSANE hourly rates. It all started i suppose in the early 1980's and the justification was something like. "MOT equipment cost loads, and look at the price of crypton tuners" You know what i mean!!!

As it happens, garage equipment is pennies compared to the stuff other firms have to buy... Go and look at the price of a decent lathe..... You could buy 10 car ramps for that!!!!!

John...good story. The arms issue is important because

it is just the kind of thing that the inspection reveals.

I was in one place where a two post lift went up....the car

stayed where it was when the hydraulic oil leaked out of the

lifting system and left the lifting arms jammed in the posts.

Two FLT's later and a long day, it was brought safely down.

The cost of the inspections is factored into the insurance that

the business pays, either as part of the insurance or as a

separate service.

Believe it or not, these lifts began as four post, then developed

as two posts and I have even seen a one post lift.

So if i were to carry on with this job, should i ask if it has been LOLER inspected recently or ever? I can guess at what the answer will be.Considering it was installed 1989, do they ever get checked, it is a one man garage firm not main dealers.

Also would the inspector need to be there as im completing job as i would think i wouldnt be able to leave it connected for garage to use without the certificate?

And @Technician would you know of a firm that certifies this kit?

Even if i dont do the job i would like to give the guy useful info, what he does after that is his affair.

 
Try by all means to get the last report.

Look at the dates. Note defects.

Contact any insurer and they (usually)

use an inspection company or have an

inspection arm within their organisation.

Inspectors do not expect calls from guys

like yourselves but again, try by all means.

I know that if the garage was insured with a decent company like nig skandia, Norwich union or cornhill then the survey requirements for the garage will include having all the equipment being inspected on a yearly basis and anything asked has to be dealt with or insurance cancelled. Worked as an underwriter on motor trade scheme in my youth for a few years before I realised couldn't work with office tw@ts anymore lol
