Mmm - I think I'd be too nervous to try that one ; \I'll have to look for them in some other thread Steps. Why is PME so popular then, if it's not as safe?
Cheaper cable as you only have one core and armour is neutral.

cost over risks. no need for seperate conductors, just connect directly to the neutral that has to be there.

the existing network has to be upto PME though - certain conditions have to be met for the neutral to be used as an earth. like if its likely to fail it cant be used (applicable more to overhead)

In my area it is all pme'd even overhead but with the twisted wiring it is unlikely to seperate. And they stake at each pole.

some connectors used to join the cable are more likely to fail than others. if its these connectors, the PME cant be used. but then some DNO staff probably dont know what connectors have been used and just PME it anyway
