This is the picture.

I have had a gas supply fitted for my new self build house and a "Gas safe" fitter has run in the gas supply from the meter into the house.

The gas meter is mounted in a flush fitting box 2m from the front of the house.

The gas pipe (sheathed) fitted today comes out of the meter box and is clipped to the external wall in a trench for approx 12m, there is a "Tee" junction at this point, but this is the first point of entry ointo the house, this is right next to the Electric meter box. The external pipe continues externally for approx 5m were it enters into the house for the kitchen/cooker supply.

Right, the gas fitter said the gas pipe (after the meter) must be earthed within

600mm of the meter. I am convinced it it within 600mm of entry into the house.

If he is correct, then I will need to run an earth cable from the electric meter box 12m back to the gas meter box, surely this is not right?

Cheers,

Leatherneck.

Alternatives are:

1. bond BOTH branches where they enter the premises.

2. Bond the "main" one, and note it on the cert.

The plumber is told that by Gas-safe apparently; my plumber phoned me the other week, as he knew I`d been to a property & rewired, but he couldn`t see a bond to the gas.

When I explained that the gas ran externally up the building, under the eaves and into the loft space; so was bonded there, he questioned it not being within 600mm of meter. I explained about the "point of entry" business, and the use of the words "where practicable". He was fine with it after that.

I would bond it at the meter if at all possible every time, and definatley if the house is still un plastered as this is the preferred method.

Plus, thats where i look every time i want to check existence.
