Hi,

Do any of you, or have any of you, ever had any problems getting the money out of people once you have done the work??

Any of you ask for payment or a deposit first?? Anyone been caught??

I did a job once years ago, and having done it, the bloke announced that he did not have "any money" Instead, he offered me

Send an invoice on completion.

1 month later send an invoice with a covering letter stating it's over due and needs to be paid immediately.

1 further month send another invoice stating it's well over due and if not paid within 2 weeks you will hand the overdue invoice to a debt collection agency.

I've only once had to go as far as step 3, and then it was paid next day, I never actually had to pursue that threat, but I would if I had to.

A debt collection agency is by far the easiest option. There is often a small up front fee for you to pay, but they recover all further costs from the debtor and they will take the debt to court on your behalf if necessary. A lot easier than you pursuing a claim yourself in the small claim court.

how long does it take to get your money back using debt collection as it would have to go to court first as they cant take anything without going to court

Hi Steptoe,

No, i have not got the imp anymore!! It was ok though! I know people thought they were crap, but i loved them, i had 3 or 4 of the things!! The air rifle was only a chinese made thing, but it was ok too!!

john..

Send the boys round!! I detest people who want a job doing who don't pay up afterwards. I wouldn't do it as I'm sure anyone reading this wouldn't do either with the exception that they are questioning the quality of your work or the poor so and so's have dropped dead then not much you can do about it.

I think it's a bit odd telling someone you can't pay, then giving them a gun?
It's a bit like an invitation to take a pot shot to me or was it in case someone tried to steal the Imp ??

Have had loads of problems over the years, I now get a deposit for sizable jobs, then staged payments.
